May 2009

Here is the summary of the past month’s shit:

The street-kids are flourishing, as are the vendors. Thank god the rainy season is rapidly approaching....to keep the runts off the streets. LOL! They are now out at all hours of the day. They have even started hanging out at the famous Petron Station on Perimeter Rd....harassing you for money while you fill up gas.

Beggars Inc. Those ladies with babies roaming around Checkpoint. Thanks to some blokes who fail to understand or accept that they are merely part of a syndicate.

Dirty Market, cute customers. LOL!

That retail-area reno near Checkpoint is nearing completion. I wonder what kinda joints are going to appear in that place.

Clark Airport City Terminal:

Reno STILL on hold due to family feud.

Amazingly less daytime traffic on Fields/Checkpoint recently.

Times must be tough as nails for this expat to be road-ridden.

The monstrosity at the corner of Checkpoint is nearing completion. Let’s see how that further creates a havoc to traffic in that area. LOL!

Same goes for the monstrosity at the foot of Fields behind the McDonalds. Remember when they had those little scrabby shops and that Japanese massage shitbox down there?
Ahhh...those were the days long gone. Welcome to the new AC. Ya think...just for a moment...that such monstrosities just MIGHT attract more beggars, criminals, and dirty-cops/politicians to target us poreigners in AC? Do ya think?

Honey, where the fuck are we? LOL! Young foreigner couple, seen walking at the foot of Fields.

Da Bars:

Bada Bing Bar, Bare Assets, Candy Bar: (Perimeter Rd., next to the Phoenix Hotel)

Buy one...get three...just kidding. Different owners, but who truly gives a flying fuck. Harro is in one, Troy in the other, who the fuck knows whom got suckered into Bare Assets, although the name probably says alot. LOL! All jokes aside, it looks like Candy Bar has wisely began what will be a low-price-war amongst those Perimeter Rd bars. His low-ball/good ol’ times price theme will definitely be a feature. Although I usually don’t predict much luck in Husband&Wife-team Bars, it might actually work out for the best. The irony of it aqll...is if and when the neighbouring bars go belly-up, Candy Bar can always pop a doorway through and easily expand. LOL!

Cheer’s Bar:

A new sucker is opening a new bar there....renovating AGAIN! Shit! It must be a “Reno-Virus”. LOL! The funny thing is the banner out front....stating “immediate start” with the interior still in reno-disarray. LOL!

Beer Bar/Al Fresco Billiard Hall:

No name, no banner. Nothing. Just a nippa-hut roof structure, bar and pool tables. You know what? It might just work for the slew of pool-players and leagues in town. The only drawback is no aircon. A selling feature might be fair pricing and decent girls. Without the aforementioned threesome, it’s gonna be a tough sell.

Viper Room: (Now gonna be called; “Fantasy Club)

Open. Big whoop!

Midnight Rodeo: (next door to Roy’s Pub, behind the Orchid In)

Live band offered. So what.

Black Virginia: (New York St. Villa sol Subdivision)

A sleazy cruddy but kinda fun place, is now closed for a much-needed reno. Don’t know if it will re-open or not. The bloke who owns it and the attached Wanjai Thai Restaurant has been trying to sell the complex for a goldmine. LOL! Wanjai is still open, and sports the only actual Thai cook in AC. LOL!

The “NEW” Brown Sugar:

Same mamasans, same owner, same girls....but they still think its “NEW”. Only in the Land of Not Quite Right. LOL! Free finger food too! LOL! Now the bars are trying to bait customers with free food! LOL! What happened to the good ‘ol girls? Hmmmm...maybe those LD-pushers and ST-scams have finally returned to haunt them! LOL!

Lashe Music Bar & Restaurant: (On MacArthur Hwy,before Pure Gold in Dau)

A vision of the new Fields Bars. 300php LDs and 3000 on-site VIP STs.

Stars Plaza Entertainment Bar: (Diamond Subdv.)

Closed for renovation.

Honeypot Bar:

Free BBQ on Friday nights. Shit! On the usually busiest night of the weeks, you need BBQ to get customers into a girly-bar? LOL! Someone is definitely missing the point. LOL!

Dollhouse:

Non-stop “events” planned for the futile attempt to drag in more customers...after the 300php LDs and 3000EWRs, of course. LOL! Don’t forget the 1500php STs encouraged by the mamasans. LOL!

Tropix:

This month’s winner for the absolutely FUGLIEST doorgirls. No more of those ghastly wigs. They wear glitter-caps now. Whew!

Club Asia:

Still under construction. The Dollhouse Group found a new sucker to invest. They were barely managing payment of the rent up till recently. LOL!

Club68:

Re-opened.

British Legion Bar: Diamond Subdv. Across from Moons Bar)

This scrawny place has some cute desperate chikkas hanging out the in the evenings. Worth a peek.

Moons Bar: (Diamond Subdv.)

Fresh paint-job. Dead as usual.

Pea Eye Bar: (Orosa St. Diamond Subdv, on the way to the Swagman)

Longest Happy Hour in town; 11:00am to 2:00am

Hotels/Apartelles:

Niagra Hotel & Restaurant:

STILL kicking and STILL one of the best values in AC.

Earth Sun Garden Hotel:

Down the street past the Swagman. A quiet place resembling a nursing home. LOL!

Villa Modesto:

Not finished yet. Interior finishing being completed.

Medgar Executive Apartelle (14 Narciso St)

Now offering a whopping 25% off for any stay over a week.

Marble Inn: (Diamond Subdv. On the way to the Swagman)

Decent deli shop and restaurant. It will surprise you as a feasible dining option. TASTY TASTY!!! LOL!

Phoenix Hotel:

Offering a different dining experience: Indian food produced by Curry Steve. The best
Indian food in AC.

Donald Paul Apartelle II/Patio V:

Now offering 79php manicure/pedicure and 299php massage. Naturally, the "genre" residing there don’t partake of such amenities, so the staff just sit idle.

Bourbon Street Apartments: (above Shano’s Pub)

Now offering furnished condos for rent. (well, if ya can’t sell ‘em...might as well rent ‘em)

Fiesta Garden Hotel: (Jake Gonzales Blvd., down the right hand of the fork, over the Abacan Bridge)

Yes, a little out of the way, but a Spartan homey kinda place. Perfect for those who don’t want to be fussed over or spoiled. Decent tasty food, mediocre pool and rooms. Wifi in all rooms and a cute little bar sporting a group of lonely girls on-site. Shuttle bus to Fields. 1000php per night.

Restaurants:

Shanno’s Pub:

Tasty food at US Prices...all on Blow Row Boulevard. No EWRs. Same like back home. LOL!

Balibago Meat and Deli: (MacArthur Hwy around the corner from the foot of Fields)

Yup! Chef Frank is at it AGAIN...yet ANOTHER venture setup to fail. This is his third attempt. He is a nice guy but has no business sense whatsoever. LOL! He now renovated the fast-food-fiasco that he had there before into a Deli. Come on! Doesn’t AC have enough fucking delis with no customers? Best of luck Frank, but I give the place less than 6 months.

Colssa Bar & Grill: (Diamond Subdv. Behind Marlim Mansions)

Just when you thought no one could get a worse locale than that Spanish Restaurant right beside the carwash on Perimeter Rd, this place takes the cake. LOL!

Kingdom Thai Food:

By far the current best Thai food in town. Clean atmosphere. Not cheap but you definitely get what you pay for.

Mamasuk Restaurant: (MacArthur Hwy, past Rosalinas)

A tasty contender in one of the best genuine tasty Pinoy food in AC. Along with Ikabud in Hensonville, these joint have been around for ages, and keep their food tasty and consistent, which keeps a loyal customer base.

Nolian’s Tuna Grill and Resto: (MacArthur Hwy, past A. Surla St. Where Hygene is.)

Closed. Too bad, cause they actually had pretty tasty decent food. The owner failed to give a shit about his place, hence the customers dwindled off and it failed.

Dandas Pizza & Grill:

Yet another tasty option for local foodies to try. Good pizza. TASTY!

Brittania Bakery: (Theodoro St. Across from Norma’s Moneychanger)

Good TASTY baked goods. Far better than that shitplace near Checkpoint.

Bourbon Street:

STILL under...yes....you guessed it....another fucking RENOVATION! LOL!

Kantine 101:

On that street opposite the Premier Hotel where the Hotel Marquis and Bluefields Hotel is located. Tasty food at a fair price. Yes, it’s ever so slightly cleaner than other carinderias in town, hence it has a decent and frequent expat customer base.

Samsoonee Restaurant:

Another Korean restaurant on Fields under construction. LOL!

Delicious Halal Food Center:

The only one of its kind in AC. I guess that someone finally felt a need for one of these
joints. I Haven’t seen a single solitary customer there yet. It’s only a matter of time....before they realize that it was placed in AC way too far before it’s time. LOL!

Carinderia of The Month:

The shitbox right beside the Orchid Inn, on the street leading to Roy’s Bar and the “Blow Row” satellite bars. Look how tasty the place looks. LOL! Can you say; “TASTY”???? LOL!

SWE-DEN Food House:

A quiet little place. Decent food I hear, but I have an allergy to food-establishments with an interior that smells like old socks. LOL!

Park Degamne Korean BBQ (Formerly Shinbi)

Re-opened recently. No one knows what the fuck this place is about. Same shit, different name and owner.

Jun Jun’s Restaurant: (Friendship Hwy. Past Halla Hotel)

Terrific and tasty Pinoy food. An offshoot of their San Fernando parent restaurant. Possibly amongst the tastiest Filipino and Kapa-provincial food in the area. Sure beats the shit from any carinderia slophouse.

Italian Frozen Yogurt: (beside the front of Maharajah Hotel)

Decent tasty frozen yogurt. It ain’t cheap, but it IS tasty for those that are fond of that stuff.

Look Foo Cantonese Kitchen: (beside Pure Gold in Dau)

STILL the tastiest Chinese food in AC.

Yakininiku Tombo Japanese Restaurant: (MacArthur Hwy. Dau)

This long-established AC landmark is now closed. It looks like for a reno, but the ever-wise owners wouldn’t possibly put up a banner to inform their stable of loyal customers of that. No fucking common sense, naturally. LOL! They had perhaps the best Japanese food in town, including a weekday buffet. They were recently overshadowed by Hana-Mi Restaurant on Don Juico though.

Screaming Eagle Cafe: (Formerly Easy Rider)

Another venture started by two partners, whom aside from being nice guys haven’t the remotest clue about the restaurant/bar business. Pity. The interior of the bar was re-painted which looks better than the menopausal beige that it was before. They are trying to woo customers with featured live rock bands. This type of entertainment has NEVER taken off amongst the foreigners in town. Ever! A total waste of time and money...considering the location and the fact that the upstairs is an acoustical nightmare. The cook is the same as before in Easy Rider, so the food is quite tasty, although the price has increased. The waitresses are few and lack an iota of liveliness. The only way guys will venture to eat/drink in that stretch of town, is for the girls. No honeys, no munchies. Tough sell.

Willie Pigs:

Also has Indian food from Curry Steve. Sporting a new 25 item All-u-can-eat buffet. Different buffet themes every day.

Riang Kafe: (What da fuck does THAT mean? LOL!)

Another flailing attempt in the restaurant business. Some folks will never learn. Unless you got something special at a fair price, you ain’t gonna survive in this town. LOL! Another wannabe business being reno’d on Perimeter Rd. Best of luck! Sincerely! LOL!

The Bavarian Lion: (Friendship Hwy, right past Timog Park Homes)

Way out location, but worth a visit if you have transportation and are bored. Live music,
German food and beers. Open 10:00am to 2:00am.

Koreatown:

I don’t know what the fuck is up with this place, but it has more restaurants cropping up in such a small area, that it boggles the mind where their patrons are coming from. LOL! I counted what....24 places? Shit! Those joints combined will seat more than 1000 people. Where are the fucking customers? LOL!

Stay out of shit.
